Honeyd - Virtual Honeypot
A honeypot is a decoy information system resource whose value lies in gathering information regarding attackers and intruders into your system. Honeypots are valuable as surveillance and early-warning tools. They should have no production value and should not see any legitimate traffic or activity.

Honeyd for Windows - WinHoneyd
WinHoneyd is Open Source low-interaction honeypot, based on Honeyd version for the Unix/Linux platform that was developed by Niels Provos. WinHoneyd is able to simulate big network structures with different Operating Systems on a single host. Hosts running different services can be simulated.

When used with WinArpd, it can populate unallocated address space in a production network with virtual honeypots. WinArpd is not needed for Honeyd (and WinHoneyd) version 1.0 and newer.

WinHoneyd is Windows command line program.

netVigilance has developed a commercial GUI for configuring WinHoneyd - WinHoneyd Configurator.

WinHoneyd Configurator is a tool which allows a user to create and edit WinHoneyd configuration files using Windows GUI.

Using WinHoneyd Configurator it is possible to configure the following:
- templates of virtual systems (hosts, routers, printers etc.);
- external IP addresses of these systems;
- personal features of particular OS;
- ports and services;
- complex networks including routing and setting its attributes (latency, loss etc.).

WinHoneyd Configurator shows in real-time the network topology which you configure. All the settings are saved then in a configuration file in the format WinHoneyd supports. Besides that, WinHoneyd Configurator has an option of making a startup CMD file for launching WinHoneyd binary with all necessary parameters including the current configuration file to emulate the configured network topology.
